My name is Charlotte Farup Ohrt and I was born in Copenhagen in 1969. I used to be a journalist; I have worked for a couple of Danish newspapers and as researcher and editor for several television production companies. In my early youth I was living as a professional dancer and dance instructor in Denmark and Italy.

Personal art

To day I have made a new career for myself as a painter. My very first work was painted in poor quality oil paint, remains from my children’s creative activities, but nevertheless the result took all my friends and family by surprise and in no time I was commissioned to paint my first picture. So I began painting more and more paintings – with better and better materials. Today I have customers from all over Denmark, who would like a painting made especially to fit in their home or office. I am also coaching courses in team building through art and I teach art classes in my hometown Herlev.

Method

I offer my costumer a unique painting in oil and acrylics. I use a wide variety of techniques that provide depth and structure to the paintings. Materials I use include stopping to create structure in the canvas, strings of textile, dust of bronze or gold to create variations in the painting, and the different materials add a three-dimensional depth and reflection to the work.

Inspiration

My travels in Italy and Greenland are my most constant sources of inspiration, I feel at home in these two countries. I take inspiration from Italian architecture and language, as well as the blue light on the mountain slopes of Greenland. Music, literature, exhibitions and my children can also make me paint for days. Most of all it is the process that is important to me, when I am working in my studio.
